An island of illustration

Hilary trained at St Martin's College of Art and Design before embarking on her lifelong career as an artist and illustrator.

From a young age her daughter Fiona took an interest in art, smearing acrylics in her hair and treading pastels into the carpet. As she grew up she got better at aiming the paint at paper.

We launched Church Mouse Press in 2012 to celebrate our love of illustration. Although we now live far apart, we love our phone conversations as a chance to discuss ideas, inspirational artists, and new scribblings.

Since 2000 Hilary and her husband Richard have run a gallery in Hythe, Kent, called Church Mouse Studio. There they run a bespoke framing service, and sell work by local artists and craftspeople as well as Hilary's own paintings and illustrations.
